What is the course about?
The Foundation Programme in Medicine and Medical Biosciences (Access to Higher Education) course offers several pathways, and takes you up to the point at which you can apply for a range of undergraduate degrees, including medicine, nursing, dentistry, pharmacy, optometry, physiotherapy, nutrition, radiography and biomedical sciences.
Who is the course for?
This course is for students who wish to study medicine, dentistry and other professions allied to medicine at a UK university.
What do I need to get on the course?
- GCSE Mathematics at Grade C or above, or equivalent
- IELTS 6 (with at least 5.0 in each component,) or equivalent
For Medicine and Dentistry, you need to have taken the clinical aptitude test (UKCAT) before commencement of the course. This is an entrance requirement for universities in the UK. We will let you know whether your UKCAT score is sufficient for you to follow the Medicine pathway, or whether it would be better to apply for other programmes.
What will I study?
On the Foundation Programme in Medicine and Medical Biosciences (Access to Higher Education (Access to Higher Education) course, you will study core modules, and also choose optional modules specific to your chosen pathway, such as Anatomy and Physiology, Medical Sciences, Chemistry, Mathematics, Information Technology, Psychology and study skills.
If you plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in Medicine, Dentistry or Pharmacy, you may also need to take an AS Level in Chemistry.
What qualification will I get?
You will receive an Access to Higher Education Diploma in Medicine and Medical Biosciences. This qualification is recognised by many UK medical schools and other degree programmes for professions allied to medicine.
What can I do after the course?
Following successful completion of the course, you will be able to apply to a wide range of universities to study Medicine, Dentistry, Biomedical Sciences and other allied professions.
Only those candidates who demonstrate particular ability and aptitude will be able to apply for undergraduate degrees in Medicine, Dentistry and Pharmacy.
How much does it cost?
The Foundation Programme in Medicine and Medical Biosciences (Access to Higher Education (Access to Higher Education) course costs£6,500. You will be required to pay a deposit of £3,000 before you enrol, and complete your payment when you enrol. The fee includes your tuition but does not include any accommodation, living or travel expenses.
