What is the Course about?
This Foundation Year is the first year of a 4-year BEng degree course or 5 year ME ng degree course.
It is suitable if you do not quite meet the standard A Level requirements for direct entry to university, or if you are returning to education and need to bring your technical knowledge and study skills up to date before embarking on a degree course.
You will study mostly at the College, but will take some laboratory classes at the School of Engineering and Mathematical Sciences at City University London. The course covers the following key modules:
- Electrical and Electronic Principles
- Electrical Science
- Mathematics
- C Programming
- Study Skills
- Electronic Hardware and Software Experiments.
Plus one option from:
- Computer Hardware
- Biomedical Engineering
What do I need to get on the course?
160 UCAS points from one of the following:
- 2 A Levels, including Mathematics at Grade C and Physics at Grade D, or equivalent
As well as:
- 4 GCSEs at Grade C including English Language and Mathematics with Science desirable, or equivalent.
- IELTS 5.5 (with at least 5.0 in each component), or equivalent.
Applicants who do not meet these entry criteria will be considered based on equivalent qualifications, previous experience, a College assessment and an applicant interview.
What can I do after the International Foundation Programme?
Progression onto the relevant BEng course at City University London is automatic on successful completion of the Foundation Year. The courses are:
- Biomedical Engineering
- Computer Systems Engineering
- Electrical and Electronic Engineering
- Engineering with Management and Entrepreneurship
- Telecommunications.
It may be also possible to transfer to a Mechanical, Civil, Motor Vehicle or Aeronautical Engineering degree course.
How much does it cost?
The Engineering Foundation Course costs £6,500 per year. You will be required to pay a deposit of £3,000 before enrolment, and complete your payment once you have enrolled. The fee includes your tuition and exam costs, but does not include any accommodation, living or travel expenses.
