This section outlines the process from your initial application, to enrolment for Level 3, Level 5, and Pre-sessional courses at City and Islington College.

  1. Submitting your application

For your application to be considered, you need to complete both parts a) and b) below:

    1. Download an application form here: International Application Form . Complete and return your application for to us by email, fax or post:

      Email to: international@candi.ac.uk

      Fax to: +44 (0) 20 7657 3552

Post to: International Office, City and Islington College, The Marlborough Building, 383 Holloway Road, London, N7 0RN

    2. Please supply the following documents along with your application form.

(Please ensure that translations into English are also provided, where relevant. Translations must contain: confirmation from the translator or translation company that it is accurate translation of the original document; the date of the translation; the full name and signature of the translator or of an authorized official of the translation company; and the translator or translation company's contact details.)

      • Copies of relevant qualifications certificates. These must be the Examination Board certificates, not school-issued versions. This will enable us to assess your application against the entry requirements for the course.
      • Copies of independent evidence of your level of English. This evidence needs to be one of the English language tests approved by the UKBA (TOEFL IBT, PTE Academic, IELTS, ILEC, ICFE, CPE, CAE, BEC, FCE, PET, ESOL Skills for Life).
      • A reference from your school, college or employer demonstrating your suitability for the course.
      • Evidence of sufficient funds to cover your course fees and living expenses (also known as maintenance). This will also be required by the UKBA as part of your application for a Student Visa. Please visit the UKBA website for complete, up-to-date information: www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/studyingintheuk/adult-students/can-you-apply/money/
      • A copy of your passport.

If you do not complete your application form fully, or fail to supply all of the supporting documents, we will ask you to supply the missing items before we can consider your application.

  2. Assessment and interview

We will assess your application in collaboration with the awarding university, if applicable.

If you meet the course entry requirements, we may contact you within 10 working days to arrange a convenient time for interview, either by telephone or over the internet using Skype (with the use of a webcam where possible). This interview gives both the College and the applicant the opportunity to ask further questions.

If your application does not meet the required entry requirements, you will be notified within 10 working days and an alternative course will be suggested, if applicable.

  3. Offer

If your application and subsequent interview are successful, we will send you an offer of a place on your chosen course within 5 working days. If you already have all of the required examinations/qualifications, this offer will be unconditional (pending payment of the deposit - see step 4). If you are awaiting the results of, or are due to sit a required examination/qualification, this offer will be conditional on you achieving the required grade(s). In these conditional cases, step 5 onwards will apply once you have received the results of your examination and provided the College with a copy of the Examination Board certificate.

  4. Deposit

Your unconditional offer will include a request for a deposit payment. You will need to reply to the offer to accept your place and pay the deposit before we can issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number (CAS). You will need this CAS number in order to apply for a Student Visa.

The relevant account/payment details will be provided with your unconditional offer. Acceptable payment methods are as follows: Cash (within UK banking limits), Switch, Mastercard/Visa, Bankers Draft, Bank Transfer. All payments must be made in Sterling.

  5. Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies (CAS) and your visa application

Once you have accepted the offer of a place and have paid the deposit, the College will issue you with a Confirmation of Acceptance for Studies number (CAS).

The UKBA operates a Points Based System where applicants are required to score 40 points in order to qualify to study in the UK. You will be awarded 30 points for a CAS number and a further 10 points (by demonstrating that you can afford the course fees and associated living expenses as detailed in step 2) to pass the points-based assessment and be able to apply for your Student Visa.

Visit the following websites for more information on applying for a Student Visa, including application processing timescales. As a general guideline, the process takes between 2 and 14 weeks.

  6. Visa confirmation and invitation to enrol

As soon as you receive notification from the UKBA, you must contact the College to confirm whether or not your visa application has been successful. If your application has been successful, we will then send you practical details about your arrival in London and your enrolment at the College, including what documentation you should bring with you.

We will also ask you to confirm your accommodation arrangements. Please note that you are responsible for arranging your own accommodation while you are a student at the College, and should try to do this before you leave home. Please see the Accommodation page of this website for more information and advice.

We will also ask you to confirm that you have arranged appropriate insurance cover for yourself.

  7. Enrolment

At enrolment, you will be required to provide the following:

    • Payment of any outstanding course fees. Acceptable payment methods are as follows: Cash (within UK banking limits), Switch, Mastercard/Visa, Bankers Draft, Bank Transfer. All payments must be made in Sterling.
